A cute baby and a clever caption to make the day happier.

How I Got Started

It all started with Tax Season.

My mom works for an accounting firm. She loves her job, except during tax season.  Anyone who has ever worked for or been an accountant can tell you that from approximately February 1st through April 15th work is Not Fun. Even the most number-loving accountant feels wiped out at the end of each day during Tax Season, and 2 and a half months of that is exhausting.

I had a baby in September.  My mom was relieved that he wasn’t born during Tax Season because travelling is frowned upon and we live three hours away from her and my dad.  Thankfully, with the advent of cell phones, getting immediate Mom Advice for those horrible surprises that come with being a first-time mommy is easy.  It was during one of these phone calls that I had The Idea.

Mom was saying how work was crazy and she just needed a way to de-stress.  They had just visited us and she said how nice it was to see Erik (my son) because she could have a day without that crazy work nonsense.  The conversation moved on – probably I was aksing for the millionth time about how to keep Erik from puking up his entire dinner – but a seed had been planted.  My mom, who I have new and tremendous admiration and respect for since becoming a mom, needed a way to stay sane and happy for the next 2 months or so.  Erik makes her feel more relaxed. We don’t live close enough to visit everyday.  How can Erik cheer up my mom long-distance?

Remember the magical cell phones I mentioned earlier?  How hard is it to snap a pic and pix message it to mom every day so that she has something to cheer her up?  Answer: not hard at all.  It’s the perfect solution! So Daily Baby was born (no pun intended).

Every day I snap a pic of Erik doing something that Erik does.  Sometimes I pose him, sometimes not. I add a caption that fits the pic and my mood and Erik’s mood. He’s cute, and I’m clever when I apply myself, so it’s a pretty good system.

My mom loved it.  Daily Baby soon became something my mom could count on to be a bright spot.  But then Tax Season ended.  She didn’t technically need Daily Baby for the original reasons I started it.  Should I discontinue Daily Baby?  Mom (several of her friends, my friends, my husband, and others) thought I should start a blog and keep Daily Baby going.

So I did. Enjoy!
